Distributed AI Solutions and Technologies for IoT

Speaker: Dinesh Verma
Distributed AI, IBM Watson

Talk Abstract:  Many applications of IoT can benefit from the use of AI technologies. However, the AI solutions for this domain need to be implemented in a distributed manner, instead of following a centralized model of sending data to a single location, in the cloud or the data center. In this talk, we will discuss some AI enabled solutions for IoT that have been implemented within IBM Research, our experiences in building those solutions, the need for distributed AI in those solutions, and the approaches that we are exploring to applying distributed AI techniques to those IoT solutions.

Biography: Dinesh C. Verma is an IBM Fellow leading the Distributed AI area at IBM T J Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York. In this role, he leads a research team creating new technologies that intersect the domain of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Distributed Systems & Networks. He received his doctorate in Computer Science from University of California at Berkeley in 1992, the Bachelors’ in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in 1987, and Masters in Management of Technology from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY in 1998. He holds over 140 patents, and has authored over 120 papers and 10 books in computer science. He has served in various program committees, IEEE technical committees, editorial boards and led international multi-institutional research alliances.
