YINS Seminar Archives: Constantine Dovrolis (Apr. 1, 2015)

Talk Summary:

“The hourglass (or bow-tie) effect in evolving hierarchical networks”

Speaker: Constantine Dovrolis, Professor at the College of Computing of the Georgia Institute of Technology

Several natural and technological systems and processes can be modeled as hourglass-like hierarchical networks. This is true for biological development, metabolism, the structure of the Internet’s protocol stack and the call-graph in Linux. This talk will investigate the reasons behind this pattern and what it means for the function and evolution of the corresponding systems.

This was a presentation of the YINS Distinguished Lecturer Series on April 1, 2015.
