YINS Industry Seminar: Enigma

“Linking Data For The Greater Good”

Join us for a talk given by New York-based Enigma, a data and technology company that recently raised $95 million to continue building a unique model of the real world. Learn more about Enigma here.

You’ll hear from Principal Data Scientist Jarrod Parker and Yale alum Cameron Yick on the work they’re doing at Enigma, a few of the lessons learned linking entities across thousands of datasets, and a project they worked on at a hackathon aimed at developing solutions to combat the ongoing opioid epidemic.

Speakers:

Jarrod Parker is Principal Data Scientist at Enigma. He studied network security at Rochester Institute of Technology with a passion in machine learning and ontology. After developing entity disambiguation systems for a defense contractor, he led engineering at a social video startup called VYou, which happened to share an office space with Enigma. When he’s not linking all the public data, he’s at home learning to play a new instrument or trying to regularize his models.

Cameron Yick (@hydrosquall) is a software engineer (data/visualization) at Enigma, where he builds applications for making sense of linked datasets. He graduated YC ‘17 (Berkeley) in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science, where he wrangled environmental policy data for Yale DataDriven.

Of course we’re serving lunch.

Upcoming:

10/4 @11am: YINS/EE Seminar, Jordi Ros-Giralt from Reservoir Labs presents, “A Mathematical Theory of QoS: Flows, Incremental Paths and Optimal Greedy Algorithms”

10/10 @12pm: YINS Visiting Lecturer Seminar, Babek Hassibi
